Living for ChristThe story of David Livingstone:
the missionary of the mid eighteen hundreds,
that pioneered the gospel to the “dark continent” of Africa.
As a teenager, he prayed: "Lord,
Send me anywhere,
only go with me.
Lay any burden on me,
only sustain me.
Sever me from any ties
but the tie that binds me
to Your service and Your heart."This God-given vision of doing missions to reach new peoples in the interior of Africa and introduce them to Christianity, as well as freeing them from slavery
sustained Livingstone through years of separation from his loved one, physical hardships, agony and pain for 32 years.
His vision was to reach the described
“a thousand villages that never a missionary had seen”.-
After 32 years, he was found dead in the mission field of Africa,
on his knees praying.
His heart was buried in Africa and the rest of his
body was taken back to London and buried in Westminster Abbey. The memorial tablet in Westminster Abbey reads:
For thirty years his life was spent in an unwearied effort to evangelize the native races, to explore the undiscovered secrets, and abolish the desolating slave trade of Central Africa.
-
The African people said,
“His body may go, but his heart must stay,
for he brought the heart of the gospel to the heart of our nation.”One hundred and fifty years later, that seed he has sown
has now produced over seventy-five million converts throughout that continent. He left behind a legacy.

if you only have one life to give,
what are you going to give it to?
